Machame route + Acclimatization + Safari Ngorongoro/Manyara/Serengeti

Day 1:

Board Riverside shuttle bus from Nairobi at 0800 hrs. and proceed to Arusha arriving at 1300hrs. Depart for Moshi at 1400hrs arriving at 1530hrs.overnight at a hotel in Moshi

Day 2:

Machame Gate (1490m) - Machame camp (2980m)

Hiking time: 7 hours

Distance: About 18 km's

Habitat: Montane forest

Transfer from your hotel to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Machame. From here, you trek through the lush forest to Machame hut. Overnight stay at the camp.

Day 3:

Machame camp (2980m) - Shira camp (3840m)

Hiking time: 6 hours

Distance: About 9 km's

Habitat: Moorland

Leave the forest. The path follows a steep ridge passing through open moorlands crossing a large gorge to reach Shira hut. Overnight stay at the camp

Day 4:

Shira (3840m)-Lava Tower (4630m)-Barranco camp (3950m)

Hiking time: 7 hours

Distance: About 15 km's

Habitat: Semi desert

You turn Eastwards and continue ascending through the dry landscape before dropping again to reach Barranco hut. Overnight stay at the camp.

Day 5: Extra Day

We strongly recommend an extra day on this route to assist acclimatization. This can be either at Shira with a leisurely walk to Shira Pinnacles or at Karanga, between Baranco and Barafu. Staying Karanga means that you avoid a long day before the summit day and get to Barafu early for a good rest. The extra day is extremely valuable for acclimatization and it's an ideal day to rest.

Day 6:

Barranco camp (3950m)- Barafu camp (4550m)

Hiking time: 7 hours

Distance: About 13 km's

Habitat: Alpine desert

The path climbs steep out of the Barranco valley and crosses the Karanga valley, then turns North to reach Barafu Hut. Overnight stay at the camp.

Day 7:

SUMMIT ATTEMPT

Barafu camp (4550m)-Uhuru Peak (5895m)-Mweka (3100m)

Hiking time: 8 hours to reach Uhuru Peak

7/8 hours to descend to Mweka

Distance: About 7 km's ascent - 23 km's descent

Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit

Along day with an early start to reach the crater, ream at the Stella point in time for sunrise, then to Uhuru peak, the highest point in Africa. After wards, descend to Gilman's point and down to Horombo hut. Overnight, stay at the camp

Day 8:

Descend down passing Mandara hut to the gate where you are transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for dinner and overnight

Day 9: Moshi-Arusha - Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Distance: 190 km (4 hrs.).

Pick up from your hotel in moshi Town. Drive to the crater with unique views of the high-altitude rain forest surrounding the ring. Lunch at your lodge. Afternoon descend to the crater for game viewing. Ngorongoro Serena Lodge built into the rim of a dormant volcano. The plant and ivy-covered native stone blends perfectly with the surroundings. Guest rooms have private terraces with views of the crater floor where countless animals make their home. Lunch at the lodge and afternoon you will have crater tour. This collapsed caldera is 610 meters deep and has a floor 18 km wide. Views from the rim of the crater are spectacular. The crater has become a unique conservation area where Lion, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo roam in perfect safety. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge or Ngorongoro wildlife Lodge, L, D.

Day 10. Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Full day spent in Ngorongoro Crater with a crater tour session for game viewing on the crater floor of one of Africa is true wonders of nature, home of rhino. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro wildlife Lodge, B, L, D.

Day 11: Ngorongoro - Lake Manyara, Tanzania

Distance: 60 km (1 hr. 30 min.)

After breakfast depart to Manyara. Lunch and afternoon game drive in this superb scenic park set around Lake Manyara, most famous for the tree-climbing lions. Lake Manyara is a birdwatcher's paradise. Marvel at the variety of species, spoonbill, teal, pelican, kingfisher, hornbill, and cormorant. In the tall trees, forest monkeys leap from branch to branch on the slope of the Great Rift escarpment, elephants stand in the shade of the baobab; and in the acacia woodland, lions lie draped along the branches of the umbrella trees. Dinner & overnight at Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge, B, L, D.

Day 12. Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha

Distance: 130 km (2 hrs. 30 min.)

After breakfast drive back to Arusha and board the 2 pm shuttle bus drop at JKIA airport by 8 pm for an outbound flight
